We have made updating your Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) settings on HSeLanD as easy as possible to ensure you can always keep them up to date.
Once you have signed in to HSeLanD, select your account icon, and then Manage MFA.
This will take you to a dedicated page where you can see all the Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) options available to you, as well as the methods you have already set up.
At the top of the page, you will find the Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) setup options you can choose from. You must have at least one method enabled, but we strongly recommend setting up more than one. This ensures you will always have a backup option if one method is not available.
If you would like to add another MFA method, check out the linked article for step-by-step instructions - Click here.
I've already set up MFA, but I can't access my account
If you have previously set up MFA but cannot access your account or receive email verification codes, you will need to set MFA up again ensuring that you use a different factor. If you choose a pass key or a time-based one-time password via an authenticator app, you will not need to wait for an email.
Step one: Remove your current MFA factors
Visit the self-service tool using the link below
https://ids.hseland.ie/Account/CantAccessAccount
When asked if you have access to your email address, select ‘No’. You will then:
- Enter your security answer
- Create a new password
Setting a new password will disable your existing MFA factors, allowing you to start fresh.
Step two: Sign in and set up MFA again
Sign in with your email/username and new password. When prompted to set up Multi-Factor Authentication, select ‘Passkey’ or ‘Time-Based One-Time Password via Authenticator App’. These options do not require waiting for an email.
How to deactivate an MFA factor you have previously set up
On the Manage MFA page, you will see a list of the MFA factors you have already configured, labelled 'Your Factors'. From here, you can deactivate any method you no longer use, giving you full control over your account security.
As you will need to authenticate each time you sign in to HSeLanD, it is important to keep this list up to date. For example, if you have set up MFA using the Authenticator App on your old phone and have now switched to a new device, you should deactivate the old method and set up a new one.
Simply select Deactivate and confirm when prompted.
Finally, make sure to remove the old account from your authenticator app as well. This prevents confusion and keeps your device tidy for future sign-ins.
To delete the factor on Microsoft Authenticator:
- Select the account from the homepage.
- Select the cog at the top right to access the settings.
- Select Remove account.
